Stealing Customers #1 - Rank for Local Business Results
In response to the person searching for 'car repair austin' google serves up 3 sets of search results. The top section is called the "Local Business Results'. These are generated from listings in Google's Business listing Directory. These are free listings. Every business can and should enter their company information in this online directory.
Now I purposely left up this graphic showing 10 search results for this search. Google though has just recently changed it to only show 7! Do you see how the local search gets more competitive every day?
Three businesses that were in that listing one day were instantly taken off the first page of search results. If you haven't created your Google local listing you want to look into this right away.
I won't lie to you, there are a number of things YOU MUST do to be one of the businesses listed in the '7-box' results for a particular search. It's too much to go into here but I will provide you with more information later on what you must do to rank for your local listing in the '7-box' .
Stealing Customers #2 - Dominate Organic Search Results
Immediately below the 'Local Business Results' are the 'Organic Search Results'. These listings are served up by Gogle based upon a complicated indexing algorithm. Google constantly scans websites, blogs, Facebook, Myspace, directories and all other web real estate to find suitable listings to present to the searcher. If you presently have a website and you do not show for local search results you need to address this immediately. If you don't show up on the first page your website is not even in the game! The 'Organic Search Results' and the 'Local Business Results' are both free listings. You have to do some work to get your sites to show up but the time is well worth it.
Stealing Customers #3 - Launch an Adwords Campaign
The block of listings on the right hand side are Google Adwords ads. These are paid listings. Business owners placed bids on specific keyword phrases that a person searching for their product or service might type into the search engine. You only pay Google when someone actually clicks on your ad.
Though this method still involves an advertising expenditure it is highly targeted and you only pay when someone has an interest in your offering or ad. Combined with the above two methods of listing your service or product in Local search, you can be certain your business is in front of those looking to buy.

Go to Google right now and type in what someone looking for your product or service may enter.
You can click here to open the Google search page.
Type in your product or service followed by a location you do business in. For instance, "dentist bensalem' , 'roofer philadelphia' or 'florist paoli'. Do you show up in the local search results? Does your competition? This is the new playing field for doing business online. If you aren't in the game you need to take a serious look at how you can start playing and competing.
